Backfat Thickness Detector Importance

The Backfat Thickness Detector Importance is unusual and benefits from focusing on backfat levels and fine-tuning the producer's ability to see the condition of the sow. Eaceni Backfat Thickness Detector is on sale.

Pig backfat is made up of lipids, collagen, and water. Backfat thickness is one of the crucial factors to take into account when choosing sows for inclusion in a breeding herd, along with age, body weight, and the number of estrus, as it affects many reproductive performances, including puberty attainment, the total number of piglets born, and farrowing rate. Additionally, backfat is a significant source of hormones linked to puberty, including progesterone, leptin, and insulin-like growth factor.

Assessment of backfat thickness is primarily performed by A-mode ultrasonography at the P2 location. It provides a more accurate physical condition than a visual score. Sows with high backfat enter puberty earlier than sows with low backfat. Piglets born from gilts with high backfat also grow faster and weigh more at weaning than gilts with low backfat. Furthermore, because low backfat gilts have very small litter sizes, removal opportunities are commonly found in them. Husbandmen should regularly check a sow’s body weight during pregnancy and nursing to prevent backfat loss, especially in the first and second parities. High relative weight loss lactating sows have a lengthy weaning-to-service delay. Replacement gilts should have backfat thickness of 18.0-23.0mm at the first insemination and should have body weight control to prevent backfat loss during gestation and lactation in order to have excellent reproductive performance of sow in higher parity.

In a field trial, experimenters measured rib backfat before farrowing in 325 sows over a 13-week period in late spring and early summer. The results showed that as backfat increased, sows were more likely to return to heat on the fourth day after weaning. Over a long period of time, and after paying more attention to backfat levels, the herd’s average has increased from 20-22 pigs per mating female/year to as high as 23 pigs/mating female/year.

Focusing on backfat levels and fine-tuning the producer’s ability to see the condition of the sow has benefited from long-term backfat thickness trials. As sow conditions improve, the number of sows per mating will gradually increase, and culling and mortality should decrease.
