Ultrasound Examination – Swine Ultrasound Machine

Early identification of swine pregnancy examination can improve reproductive efficiency in pig farms. Methods such as the detection of resumption of estrus in sows after mating, and the swine ultrasound machine have been used for pregnancy diagnosis.Ultrasound machine for swine pregnancy has a variety of applications.

The reproductive efficiency of commercial swine farms is increased by early and precise identification of pregnant and nonpregnant sows and gilts. For the purpose of determining if a woman is pregnant, including techniques the detection of post-mating estrus returns and swine ultrasound machine have been utilized . However, there isn’t yet a perfect pregnancy detection method that is commercially available. This article introduces several common swine pregnancy examinations.

Detection of Estrus
Watching sows failing to return to estrus after mating is the most common pregnancy test. The premise of this technique is that pregnant sows rarely come into heat during gestation, and non-pregnant sows return to heat within 17-24 days after breeding. As a swine pregnancy examination, the accuracy of the detection of estrus is 39% to 98%.

Hormone Concentrations
Serum concentrations of prostaglandin-F2 (PGF), progesterone, and estrone sulfate have been used as pregnancy indicators. These hormone concentrations are dynamic and extensive knowledge of endocrine changes in pregnant and non-pregnant sows is required before using these techniques for pregnancy diagnosis. Currently, the measurement of serum progesterone concentration is the only test for any commercial application. The overall accuracy of the progesterone pregnancy test has been found to be >88%.

Rectal Palpation
Rectal palpation proved practical and fairly accurate for the diagnosis of pregnancy by rectal palpation in sows. The disadvantage of this technique is that the pelvic canal and rectum are often too small to be used for surgery in low parity sows.

Typically ultrasound examinations use mechanical ultrasound equipment because they are easy to use, commercially available and considered accurate.

Doppler Ultrasound: There are currently two types of transducer probes available for use with Doppler instruments: abdominal and rectal. Doppler ultrasound instruments utilize the transmission and reflection of ultrasound beams from moving objects. Blood flow in the uterine arteries of pregnant sows and gilts was detected at 50 to 100 beats/min and in the umbilical arteries at 150 to 250 beats/min.

Amode Ultrasound: Uses ultrasound to detect a fluid-filled uterus. The transducer is placed against the side and towards the uterus. Some of the emitted ultrasonic energy is reflected to the transducer and converted into an audible signal, deflection or light on the oscilloscope screen.

Swine Ultrasound Machine: Portable ultrasound machine for swine pregnancy for assessing pregnancy diagnosis in sows. The use and potential accuracy of real-time ultrasound in sow pregnancy diagnosis is described elsewhere in these procedures. In addition to swine pregnancy examination, the portable ultrasound machine has other potential applications. The Swine Ultrasound Machine can check sows with difficult farrowing for long periods of time for piglets left in the womb. In addition, sows and gilts with endometritis are often identified and differentiated from sows later in gestation.

The advantages of accurate swine pregnancy examination include early detection of conception failure, prediction of production levels, and early identification of non-pregnant animals, which facilitates culling, treatment or re-breeding. Ultrasound machine for swine pregnancy is the most widely used pregnancy diagnostic technique.
